The Tap to Pay channel is adding the “Best Fare” option

17 April 2025

The Tap to Pay channel is adding the “Best Fare” option: visitors can travel using a contactless bank card and always get the best price available.

From April, Tap to Pay includes a new feature: it automatically calculates the best fare, meaning the most economical price for each trip. More info >>

Right now, the tickets you can buy include: € 1.50 urban tickets which are valid on buses, trams and the People Mover, standard suburban tickets, Aerobus tickets, € 9.50 standard Rete Unica tickets, and the € 1.50 Rete Unica tickets reserved for Venezia Unica cardholders who have linked their profile to their contactless bank card through the dedicated online area (an option that has already been activated by two thousand people). In addition, the following options will now be added in this first phase: the daily and multi-day Venezia Daily Pass, the Mestre Daily Pass, as well as 2, 3, and 7-day tickets.

Daily or multi-day tickets are automatically activated by the calculation system, which determines the best available fare each day based on the number and type of trips selected by the traveller.

It is important to remember that, where required (on buses and trams), a TAP must always be made when boarding and when getting off a vehicle in order for the correct fare to be applied, and that up to five passengers can travel using the same bank card, whether physical or virtual, as long as the same device is always used (either only the physical card or only the virtual card on a smartphone or wearable).

It is important to remember not to pass wallets, bags or backpacks over the ticket validator in order to avoid incorrect charges, especially for those who have travel tickets loaded onto a Venezia Unica card or an electronic device. To scan the QR Code, it is necessary to tap the dedicated icon at the top centre of the ticket validator display.

The validity of a ticket is checked either by showing the card or by providing the last four digits of the card, keeping in mind that these digits are different between the physical card and the wallet version. To see the ones for the wallet, it is necessary to open the app on the smartphone.
